Why air fryer onions are so good?
Onions are great for adding a pleasant flavor to any savory dish, or they themselves make a great side dish. Regardless of how you use them, onions are a delicious and healthy addition to any meal.
One of the best ways to cook onions is in an air fryer. Air fryers use hot air to cook food, and they require very little oil. This makes it a healthier alternative to deep-frying or even panfrying or sauteing the onions.
Additionally, air fryers can cook onions quickly and evenly. As a result, they are less likely to burn than when they are cooked on the stovetop. If you're looking for a quick and easy way to cook onions, an air fryer is the perfect kitchen appliance.
What all you'll need?
Onions - red or white depending on choice. Red onions caramelize better than the other ones.
Oil spray - or 1 tsp olive oil or canola oil or avocado oil
Seasonings - Optional (salt, garlic powder, pinch of smoked paprika)
How to make air fryer onions?
First, start by peeling and slicing the onions. You can either dice them or slice them to 1/4 inch thickness. Don't cut them very thin since they will burn quickly.
Preheat the air fryer to 390 F for 3 minutes. Then, add the diced onions to the air fryer basket and cook for 6 - 8 minutes depending on the size and thickness of the onions.
Don't forget to shake them halfway through. You'll know they're done when they're tender and starts to caramelize by changing color to a brownish tint.
Some Tips
Soak them in ice water before chopping for crunchier bites.
Don't cut the onions very thin since they may burn easily. Or if slicing thin decide the timing accordingly.
Make sure to spray some oil before cooking.
Preheat the air fryer even if it's not essential. I prefer to preheat the air fryer.
