Sliced Potatoes In Air Fryer
An air fryer is a new-age kitchen appliance that works with the same technology as a convection oven, i.e. using hot air. But the size and high-speed fan cook the food quickly and a little better than the oven. Also, they don't heat up the whole room cooking the food, unlike the traditional oven.
Air-fried potato slices have a golden brown, crunchy texture that is completely irresistible. And the air fryer also uses less oil than traditional pan-frying methods, making it a much healthier option. Sliced potatoes in air fryer makes a healthier appetizer and side dish. This recipe is vegan and gluten-free as well.
Why do I love these sliced potatoes made in the air fryer?
This dish has a lot of childhood nostalgic memory. My Mom used to make them as a side dish most of the time since we love potatoes. But those were pan-fried. So when I made them in the air fryer, I just love the new and healthier version of my old favorite side dish. I'm sure you will love them too. Few points why you will love these air fryer potato slices are -
- these are easy to make
- no preparation is required
- versatile to serve
- vegan and gluten-free
- best as a side dish
- serve as an appetizer with any favorite dip
crispy no-soggy texture with a fluffy inside
Ingredients you will need -
-Potatoes
-Olive oil
-Seasonings (garlic powder, salt, pepper, paprika, oregano)
Instructions
Rub and clean the potatoes. Keep the skin on.
Slice the potatoes into 1cm - 1.5 cm (appx 1/4 - 1/2 inch). Wash the potatoes once to remove extra starch to make them crispier.
Pat dry the slices with a kitchen napkin. Add the seasonings and drizzle olive oil.
Mixed them together coating the slices with spices.
In the meanwhile preheat the air fryer at 400 F for 3 minutes.
Arrange the seasoned slices in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10 minutes flipping at 6 minutes. For extra crispy or brown add 1 minute incremental or till you get the desired doneness.
Remove once done and serve hot as you like.
Extra tips -
Soak potatoes in ice water for 15 - 30 minutes to make the potato slices crispier. However in this recipe it's not necessary though. And cooking at high temperature makes them crispy anyways.
Flip or shake the basket in the halfway for even cooking. You can skip this too but I personally has seen better result when flipped the slices. This helps in giving even texture on both sides.
If it look dry, can spray oil lightly while flipping them. But again preference.
Add seasonings and herbs of choice.
If you cut slices relatively thinner try cooking at lower temperature and lesser time to cook. Get your time correct for the thickness of the slices in your air fryer since all the air fryer doesn't cook the same way.
F A Qs
Yes, absolutely you can cook the slices in the air fryer and these are much better in taste and texture than the pan-fried ones. These are healthier too.
Potatoes become crispier when they are less starchy. We wash and soak them after cutting to get rid of those extra starch. Ice water is an added benefit to this. Also with more starch it might take a little extra time but not necessarily always.
Potatoes turn out crispy when cooked at relatively higher temperature like 400 F in the air fryer. Cook the potato slices at 400 F for 10 - 12 minutes unless they are thinly sliced.
Serve the sliced potatoes with air fryer chicken legs, air fryer chicken thighs, air fryer chicken tenders, and the list is long indeed.
